International Women of Science: Trailblazing Scientists Share Their Journey
Wednesday, May 11, 2015
Chicago Cultural Center | 1st Floor Garland Room
78 E Washington St | Chicago, IL
Light refreshments will be provided
Join seven women scientists and researchers from around the world at our February Coffee Conversation event for an international discussion about women in the sciences! Our international guests will share their experiences, both challenging and rewarding working in a male-dominated field in their home countries and discuss their work promoting greater inclusion for women in their workplaces.
These dynamic scientists will also speak about their visit to Chicago through the State Department’s premier professional exchange program, the International Visitor Leadership Program.
The seven panelists hail from Botswana, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Mexico, Poland, and Uzbekistan and occupy key research positions at a variety of institutions, including Mexico’s National Institute of Astrophysics, Poland’s Ministry of Higher Education and Science, Uzbekistan’s Institute of the Chemistry of Plant Substances, UNESCO, and Israel’s Center for Economic and Social Research.
As an added bonus Other Faces of Africa: Blooming of Education and Health in Mozambique and Malawi Photography Exhibit will be on display during this event.
Five volunteers that recently traveled back from Mozambique and Malawi, after working for six months in developing projects in Africa, focused on primary and higher education in both countries, and HIV/AIDS in Mozambique. Through the Other Faces of Africa: Blooming of Education and Health in Mozambique and Malawi Photography Exhibit, these women are trying to show a different face of the usually poverty-stricken continent profile. The photography exhibit allows you to hear the sound of the voiceless and the flourishing future of a hopeful continent.
